"PICK A COLT DAY" - New date, May 7
Pick a Colt Day - Saturday, May 7
"Pick A Colt Day" at the Lazy K Ranch
LAZY K RANCH PREPARES FOR ITS 28TH ANNUALPICK-A-COLT DAY PRODUCTION SALE THE FIRST SATURDAY IN MAY Featuring Ranch Horse Bloodlines -- 60 head Guaranteed To Be Sold for $575 - $975 Internet Purchase Option For Long-Distance Buyers
Chowchilla, CA (Dec. 29, 2010) -- The Lazy K Ranch “Pick-A-Colt” Day Sale will be held one month earlier this year, Saturday May 7, 2011, to accommodate a shift in the ranch’s breeding schedule and cattle drive.  Also new this year, get from two new stallions added to the breeding program, including an own son of Shining Spark...
What hasn’t changed is the availability to purchase foals from some of the best ranch horse bloodlines in the country, including Colonel Freckles, Doc O’ Lena, Sugar Bars, Hollywood Dun It and Peppy San Badger.  This Quarter Horse and Paint horse sale offers more than 70 colts, fillies, yearlings and a few very kid-friendly riding horses all priced to sell with at least 60 head priced between $575 and $975.  All horses are pre-priced and sold on a first to pick first to purchase basis.
“We moved the sale up a month as most of our foals now are fall babies,” said Larry Knapp, sale manager.  “Weaning these youngsters in May allows them plenty of time on their dams, gets them to their new homes earlier and allows us a little more time to get our cattle to their summer pasture.”
Additionally, for those looking for a futurity prospect, there will be some spring 2011 foals available from Lotta Stuff To Shine, an own son of Shining Spark.
The colts and fillies for sale the first Saturday in May come from the largest working remuda of kind, classy, registered mares on the West Coast.  Each horse will be available to view online at LazyKRanch.com in January.  Information on each sale horse includes their pedigree and a photograph, and the photographs of their sire and dam.  Shoppers can visit the site and narrow their selections prior to arrival sale day.  For those who can’t make the trip to the ranch, the sale is open to Internet buyers one hour after the sale begins.  Prices for each horse are posted on the ranch Web site, Lazykranch.com, the night before the sale.
“This is the place to get an authentic ranch horse with color,” said Larry Knapp, sale manager.  “We’ve got dazzling buckskins, palominos, roans and fancy paints all for less than a breeding fee.”  “We offer the Internet option so anyone, no matter where they live, can purchase a good ranch, show or trail horse. at a great price.”
On sale day, May 7th, the ranch gates open at 8:30 a.m. with the sale beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the online portion of the sale.  Shipping assistance is available for online buyers located in Southern California.
“It’s quite a sight to see when we open up the corrals at 10:00,” said Sherry Knapp.  “People are so excited to finally be able to PICK that perfect horse they have been researching online.”
Lazy K Ranch, owned and operated by the Knapp family, has run cattle and horses in the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada Mountains for three generations.  “We started out as a cow outfit,” said Mike Knapp.  “In the summer our cows run on 45,000 thousand acres at elevations up to 6500 feet.  To get these cows gathered in the fall we need a horse with a good mind, good legs and a big heart.”

We have attended this event for the past two years (actually bought a filly).  It was quite exciting from the start!  Cars and many, many horse trailers were lined up at the Lazy K gate bright and early waiting for the gates to open at 8:30.  At 9:30 the older horses were shown under saddle.  There were just four and they sold quickly.  Then Eddie, the ranch foreman explained to the crowd how the sale works.  The anxious crowd moved to the next waiting area which was a rope.  When the rope was raised, the mad dash began.  The buyers had one hour to "pick a colt" before internet purchases were accepted.

This unique one day sale is not an auction, but rather each horse is priced very competitively and sold on a first to pick first to purchase basis.  In fact, over 50 horses are priced from $575.00 - $975.00.

"To preview our sale, please visit
www.LazyKranch.com.  Online you will be able to view pictures, research pedigrees, and sort the sales list by Breed, Color, Gender & Age.  The purchase price for each horse will be posted online the day before the sale, so wait until then to print out a catalog if you want to bring a color copy with you.

If you will be attending the sale in person, the ranch gates open at 8:30 am and the sale begins at 10:00 am.  We accept cash, travelers checks, personal checks and Visa/MC. Please note that a convenience fee of 2.5% of the transaction amount will be charged to Visa/MC users.  Registration papers will be held for those customers paying with a personal or company check, until the check clears our bank.

On May 7th, if you will be making your purchase online, go to
www.LazyKranch.com, click the Buy Online link and log in.  At approximately 11:00 am our web site will be updated and the unsold horses will be available to purchase. Simply refresh the Horses For Sale page and look for the “Add To Cart” buttons in the right hand column.  Make your selections and complete the transaction using Paypal.  To expedite this process, we recommend that you pre-register as an “Online Buyer” and create a Paypal account prior to the sale.

From all of us here at Lazy K Ranch, we look forward to having you as our guest.
